Driver’s License test is conducted in two different ways – the actual driving test and a written test. You can obtain a driver’s license only after you complete either or both of the tests. This, however, depends on the rules of the Department of Motor Vehicles that apply to your state of residence.
The actual driving test is a test that is conducted, usually in the presence of a driver’s license issuing officer, to see how good your driving skills for the road are, before you jet set with your vehicle on the streets. While this test is usually conducted on a track that belongs to the DMV, sometimes it could be conducted on the roads as well. It is, hence, better if you’re prepared to drive or ride in streets with some amount of traffic. You’ll be in a better position to clear the test. Some tests require you to perform basic activities like starting, turning (U-turns, S-turns, 8-turn, etc.) and braking appropriately in given situations.
A written test is also conducted, sometimes only in the written form and sometimes along with the actual driving test. This test is conducted in order to assess your knowledge about the roads, the various signals and sign boards, etc. Some written tests are also designed to check your thought process. You’re given questions regarding some simulative situations and you’re expected to write what you would do if you were in that situation. The written test is not a difficult one to pass. You can also get a lot of help from various websites that deal with driving lessons. The DMV of your state will also have a section on its website, where you can find help with road signals. Also, you can look for help in the Driver Handbook on the website of your state’s DMV, or maybe a hard copy of the same in a DMV office.
